Pennies for Patients

Students and staff at Valle Vista Elementary School donated a total of $1,030.14 to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Staff introduced Pennies for Patients to students in January to show the benefit of helping others.

Throughout the campaign students received a collection box and gathered loose change for two weeks during the month of January. The coins were collected and conveniently deposited into a Coinstar machine.

Principal Jennifer Martin said it was wonderful to see her students unite for this important cause. “It taught students about supporting a greater need in the community and brought awareness to childhood blood cancer and the research that is being conducted to find a cure,” she said.

As an incentive, the two top classes with the highest donation will receive a donut party for their classroom, in addition to a pennant for their classroom provided by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Thank you to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for making the campaign easy to organize and execute for the students and to Valle Vista site coordinators, which included teachers Ben Uribe and Ann Brewer. For more information on donating to a great cause, visit www.schoolandyouth.org.
